What is a Waste Walk?

A waste walk is a visual sweep of the plant that can identify areas of product waste. Anything laying on the floor or stuck in your conveyor frame and components can be considered a waste because it never got to its intended location and never got to the customer. And the reason for this waste is oftentimes “carryback.”

Carryback occurs when materials stick to the belt instead of heading to their destination and either carry over the belt and onto the floor, or continue on the belt and to stick to rollers and other components. Once problem areas are identified, a plan is made to address and eliminate waste.
